A two-hour road trip from Cairns, there's plenty of natural beauty to experience.

Cairns to Mission
Beach. It
takes approximately 1hr and 42 minutes to drive from Cairns to Mission Beach.
It is a lovely easy drive with minimal traffic on the road. There are multiple opportunities
to hire cars or campervans from Cairns.
There are also a few bus services available
which are also very cheap and efficient ways to travel here taking
approximately 2 hours from Cairns and cost approximately $25 each way. Greyhound

When to visit
I have been fortunate enough to visit Mission
Beach during almost every month of the year experiencing all of the seasons,
even experiencing a cyclone Cyclone
Jasper in 2023. Mission Beach can be enjoyed
through both of the tropical seasons, both wet season and dry season, as
weather condition are not as severe as areas further to the north. Please keep
in mind though that stingers may be present during the wet season, so precautions
must be taken. The High season is May to October when many travellers from the
southern states head north for the warmth of the tropics.

Main Attractions
For me the Main attraction of Mission Beach is the beautiful beach which stretches for 14 kilometers along the coastline. This beach is a perfect palm lined tropical paradise with divine turquoise water gently lapping onto a wide expanse of beautiful white sand, then leading onto luscious tropical rainforest. Mission Beach was recently voted number 5 in the world as one of the best beach villages in the world Worlds 5th most beautiful Beach The beach maintains a secluded feeling due to the sheer expanse which allows people to spread out and easily have your own part of this amazing paradise. There are swimming nets located near Castaways Resort and Spa and at South Mission Beach to allow safe swimming in the summer months.

Beach Dive. These companies offer excellent opportunities to visit the
spectacular great Barrier Reef for amazing Diving and snorkelling experiences
Bike Hire- Mission Beach Bike hire The sand on Mission Beach offers a great wide expance and
hard surface perfect for bike riding. A great activity to enjoy in Mision Beach
is Bike riding on the beach. It is also great to have a bike to utilsis as a
handy mode of transport between Mission Beach, Wongaling Beach and South
Mission Beach. There are various bike paths, and the quiet suburban streets are
very bike friendly.
Rafting Wildside
Adventures. White water rafting on the pristine
Tully River is an exhilarating experience not to be forgotten. Wildside
adventures offer the opportunity to ride the rapids in 2 person Kayaks on half
Day or Full day tours. This activity would have to be one of the most
adventurous days I have experienced, and I would highly recommend this for anyone
visiting the area.
Dunk Island – Dunk
Island is a
picture perfect island situated 4km off shore from Mission Beach. There are
various transfer options to the island including private boat, boat hire Mission Beach Boat Hire ,
ferry transfer Quick
Coast Dunk Island Ferry or as we did paddle across yourself on a calm day. There
is camping available on the island. The fishing opportunities around the island
are plentiful. The highlight of the island for me is the three hour walk to the highest point of the
island, Mount Kootaloo. Dunk
Island Walking Tracks. The walk meanders through luscious tropical rainforest, showcasing the beautiful
unique vegetation, spectacular views and the chance to spot a diverse range of
native wildlife including Cassowaries.

Dunk Island Walking Tracks
Rainforest Walks - Mission Beach Walking tracks. One of my favourite activities in Mission Beach is to explore the diverse range of beautiful walking tracks. These tracks lead through world Heritage listed rainforest and often follow beautiful beaches with spectacular scenery. My favourite walking tracks in this area are Ulysses Link, Cutton Brothers, Bicton Hill, Lacey Creek and Musgravea Tracks.

Where to stay
I have stayed at a variety of places at Mission Beach. I like to stay in close proximity to the village so I can walk to go out for dinner and visit the other lovely shops here. My favourite places to stay are
A fantastic caravan Park situated directly across the road
from beautiful Mission Beach. It is immaculately maintained and perfect for camping,
caravanning or staying in one of their lovely self contained cabins. The pool
has a small waterslide which the kids love, there is a great undercover
recreation area and well maintained facilities.
Castaways
Resort and Spa – An up-market
Resort situated at the best location of Mission Beach. The food, accommodation
and facilities of this resort are impeccable. The resort offers both sea view
rooms and Rainforest rooms. The rainforest rooms are located behind the main
resort, these offer more a rainforest experience with economical rooms and a separate
pool.
Beach House 4 – I have stayed here on multiple
occasions. This unit offers an economical beachfront accommodation option. The
unit is very spacious and offers beautiful beach views from the huge beach
front deck. Perfect for families.
Where to Eat- The beautiful Mission Beach Village hosts and diverse variety of places to dine ranging from 5 star service such as Castaways Beach Bar and Grill through to pizza shops and Take Away establishments such as the wonderful Chippy. There is also a supermarket and fruit and vegetable store in the village, There is a Woolworths supermarket situated at Wongaling Beach.
